Quincy Magazine is working to bring Quincy, IL a seamless and unified local WiFi presence.  We have already started to map the current open WiFi networks around the city, and with enough interest we will be able to allow wireless Internet users to move seamlessly between all of these networks without having to connect to each one individually.  This project will benefit businesses who already have an open network because they will be able to utilize the portal page for advertising.  It is also a big opportunity for those businesses who don't already have an open network, because a lot of the bandwidth they are paying for isnt being used, and potential customers are attracted to WiFi hotspots.

All it takes for businesses is a one-time cost of $150, which will cover the cost of the wireless router, implementation, and management of the system.  The city may even be eligible for a grant which would allow us to bring many routers into local businesses free of charge.

Several surrounding communities have also expressed interest in the project.

If you like the idea or want to know more, feel free to comment below or email us at admin@quincymagazine.com.  Link your friends to this news article to help spread the word!  If you have or know of a business with an open wireless network, email us and we will put it on our map
