Half priced Mexican at Gem City Pizza seems to be a city favorite as the place was packed.

After a short wait, we got a nice table right by a big window so we could see all the happenings over at TCBY.

Our waitress brought us both kinds of salsa, the hot tomatillo green salsa, and the mild red salsa, with a big basket of warm salty restaurant style tortilla chips.  It’s a rather generous appetizer considering both our entrees are already half priced.  The green salsa was decent, it had nice big chunks of tomatillos in it, but it was hardly spicy.  The red salsa is amazing though, lots of garlic and salt.

Despite the fact that I could have been satisfied on the chips and salsa alone, I ordered a big entrée because it was cheap.

I had the chimichangas before and wanted them again because they are sooo good, so I ordered the Grande Platillo, which lets me have a chimichanga but also try something new.  In addition to the crispy fried chimichanga, it comes with a pork burrito simmered in a red sauce and topped with Monterey jack cheese, sour cream (my favorite), guacamole, and diced tomatoes.  The whole thing is served with lettuce, Mexican rice, and refried beans.

I avoided the sides because I don’t much care for refried beans and the rice wasn’t all that good, but the burrito and chimichanga were delicious.  The pork in the burrito really gives it a nice flavor, and the sour cream makes the whole thing pop.  The crispy chimichanga is still the best even though the outer shell is a little thick

Overall, definitely worth the sub-$5.00 price tag, and probably worth it even at full price.
